Yam Fry

The other day, I had some yam at home. I was wondering what to do with it. Yam by the way is a very versatile vegetable. There are many recipes that can be made with yam. But I know only a few of them. Some kind of yam is also called sweet potatoes. But those are not the one I am talking about. The variety of yam I am referring to, is called the Elephant foot yam.

I decided to make a snack out of it. Here is what I made with it.

What we need
  • Yam - 250 gram
  • Chilli powder - one to one and half  tea spoons
  • Coriander powder - half a tea spoon
  • Turmeric powder - half a tea spoon
  • Fennel Powder - one tea spoon
  • Oil - 3 to 5  table spoons
  • Salt - to taste

Method
  1. Cut yam into pieces of medium thickness
  2. Cook it in a pan, in a way that it is not mashed. It should be hard enough for you to pick it up and hold it.
  3. Before switching off the burner, add a little salt to it.
  4. In another bowl, add all the above mentioned powder with a little water and salt.
  5. Now transfer the yam into this bowl and mix well. Allow it to marinate for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. In a pan fry the yam with a little oil like we do while frying fish. Yam should be fried carefully so that it does not break during the process
  7. Yam fry is ready
Note: If you want the yam fry to be a little more hot and spicy you can increase the quantity of Chilli powder in the preparation.
